An industrial drying device called a drum dryer is used to extract moisture from liquids, bulk materials, and compounds based on slurries. It is made out of a drying chamber that is a revolving drum. After spreading the item to be dried over the drum's surface, heat is supplied to evaporate the moisture as the drum turns, leaving behind the dried product.
In a drum dryer, the drum is usually cylindrical and composed of stainless steel. As the drum turns, the material is moved and stirred by the internal lifters or paddles. In order to provide effective heat transfer and drying, the lifters encourage improved contact between the material and the heated drum surface.
